You'll Be In My Heart

Dear Luke,

I know I already wrote you a letter this month, but something happened tonight that reminded me I forgot to tell you something very important. We have a song! :) The week I found out I was pregnant, I heard the same song EVERY day on my way to work, and that song was, "You'll Be In My Heart," by Phil Collins, from Tarzan. Every time I heard it the lyrics would just make me cry tears of joy because I was so excited to meet you and for our lives together. The lyrics that stood out to me were:

I know it is super cheesy to post the lyrics but in order to understand my emotions you have to hear them! Whenever I sing this song to you, you calm down instantly. It's amazing. It's like you were listening in my tummy when you were as small as a sesame seed. :) On my way home from class tonight, it came on the radio. I think it might be the first time I've heard it and actually listened to it again since that week. Now that you're here and such a big part of my life, it means so much more. The bond between us truly can't be broken. It's a bond unlike any other. I love you more than words or lyrics can express. But these lyrics are pretty darn close to how I feel about you my little man. I want to choose a line from the song to put in vinyl lettering in your room...I'm still deciding which line. :)

Anyway, here are some cute pics of you at 4 months. Also, you rolled over today for the first REAL time. It took you about 5 minutes to roll from your back to your belly and vice versa, but once you did it, you kept doing it over and over. So cute :) Love you Mr.

Month 4

Dear Luke,

SO much has changed this month. Not only have we been in our new home for this whole month, but you have grown and developed more than any other month. I feel that you grew out of the newborn stage, and you're now my big baby boy. :) Shortly after my 3 month letter, we took you to the doctor to find out what we could do about your horrible fussiness. He suggested you might have acid reflux, so we are trying prevacid. It seems to help A LOT, and although you still have fussy times, not near as many as before. You still have minor gas issues, but seem to be growing out of them as well. This makes mommy and daddy super happy. We have been out and about a lot more this month as I have been nannying, going to school, and living in Vegas provides more opportunities to get out in the evening/night and do things. You are adjusting to your carseat more as well, which is convenient, finally. You are a happy boy and love talking and socializing with anybody, even strangers. Everyone who sees you comments on your long eyelashes. They are amazingly long, I feel like they grow every day too. They also comment on your round face since it's so perfectly round. The doctor gave us the ok to start trying rice cereal and baby foods, so we are slowly easing you into those. You LOVE cereal (as long as it's mixed with breast milk) and you have tried carrots so far, and love them too. Unfortunately, you are sick right now with a cold and it's hard for everyone. You were finally on a 8-5 sleeping schedule, then you would sleep until 7. It was heaven, but now that you are sick your schedule is a little off. It's okay, though. I just hate to hear your stuffy nose and horse voice. Hopefully you get better soon! At your 4 month well check you were:

50th percentile for height at 24 1/2 inches.
90th percentile for weight at 15 lbs. 14 oz. (love my chubbs..)
42 cm for head circumfrence, which is still in the 50th percentile.

You are growing and changing so fast. People always say, "They are always growing and changing so never take any day for granted." You don't believe it until you experience it. It's hard being away from you for two nights a week when I go to school because I know I'm missing out on smiles, cries, and development, but it will all be worth it when I get my degree! This month you have:

-Started grabbing toys and have discovered how to suck on them. You talk to your toys on your carseat and bouncy seat.
-Realized that we ALWAYS come to you if you cough, so you fake cough to get our attention.
-Continued to scream when older women pick you up or talk to you.....so weird.
-Started eating "solids" and you love them.
-Learned how to sit up in your bumbo and you could do it all day long.
-Learned how to play in your turning toy table.
-Been babysat by daddy or grandma or aunts and uncles much more often.
-Discovered that you love to stare at people with blonde hair...you think they are pretty??
-Decided that rolling over is possible, but takes too much effort.
-Continued to laugh at things that you deem funny. :)
-Decided that your binky is only needed when you're sad enough or tired.
-Grown out of all your clothes it seems. You are now in 6 month clothes! (Very few 3-6)

Likes:
1-Still bath time. You have graduated from your hammock to sitting in your baby bath tub.
2-Cereal and baby food, so far.
3-Talking and cooing as loud as possible.
4-Playing with your elephant toys on your seats.
5-Sitting in the bumbo.
6-Sitting in your toy table.
7-Watching T.V. (This could be bad...)
8-Being held in stores/restraunts.
9-Being sung to.
10-Having your diaper changed.
11-Staring at the fan.
12-Mommy and daddy are still your favorite people :)
13-Grabbing and pulling mommy's hair.

Dislikes:
1-Getting dressed.
2-Being "ignored."
3-Watching mommy and daddy eat when you're not eating.
4-Having your snot sucked with the snot sucker (What baby likes this?)
5-Being in your carseat for hours while we shop.
6-Being in the car at night time.
7-Having to take naps..you fight sleep.
8-HATE loud music or noises. (See story below.)
9-Not being held to go to sleep. (Uh oh....we'll work on this.)

I feel like I'm missing stuff but as I remember I will come add to this. (I know, it's a long post already...) Just so we don't forget, a funny story that happened this month:

You were a grumpy grumpy boy with a poopy diaper about a week ago as we were shopping, we finally got to target (you screamed for 10 minutes in the car) and while I was changing you, you instantly got happy. But not for long. A lady started drying her hands in the automatic hand dryer thing and you looked up at me, your lip quivered, and you started SCREAMING at the top of your lungs. Nothing would soothe you. You hated that noise and that place and you were mad. It was sad, but kinda funny at the same time. :) Daddy could hear you across the store.

We love you more and more every day. I can't imagine loving you any more than we do. We have bad days and good days, but through it all, you are the joy of our lives. Thanks for being the cutest baby in the world. :) We always look forward to the new day and all the adventures you take us on. I love you little man. You are my prince!

New Look, New Job

We've heard from many different people that if their babies hair is patchy, shaving it by 3 months usually means it will grow in nice and un-patchy. :) We also heard the opposite, never to shave your babies head because it's their cute baby hair. Well, although I was very very sad to get rid of his cute baby hair, we decided it would be best to try the shave, since his hair was getting extremely patchy. He already has peach fuzz growing in after a week and a half and it's really cute, so I'm sure it will grow back fast and even cuter than before...until then, we have a little baldy on our hands. Here are some pics of him before and after the buzz....he looks so much older and cute in a different way :)

Drew started his new job and absolutely loves it. He teaches hospitality/marketing, event planning, and a film class. He's pretty busy but is having a lot of fun while finally making some real money! :) All the students already love him and he's been asked to be the basketball club advisor (they don't have teams there since it's a magnet school...the kids play on public school teams...) the salsa dance club advisor, and a fundraiser club advisor. Unfortunately, he had to turn down all three offers because he's already a DECA advisor, and the 9th grade student council advisor. I just said advisor like 12 times, but anyway....he's the new popular guy! The first week of school he had his students do a team building, leadership exercise and a lot of the teachers were praising him and asking if they could borrow his idea. Also, he has a cricket machine in his room...(awesome)...and he put up positive quotes on his wall, which the teachers also thought was a good idea. So obviously he's doing great!! I wish I could go witness him teach one of these days, but hopefully I will sometime. Here are some pics of his room!

And last, but not least....a bunch of cute pics from labor day weekend. My mom and Chellcee (my brother whose on a mission, Garrett's girlfriend) came down to St. George to meet us. We stayed at my grandma's house in Washington, which is always a good time, and just relaxed. I had to get some pics of Luke with Chellc to send to Garrett. I love his eyes in all these pics. The blue onesie he's wearing brings out his bright blues. My baby boy is the cutest! Oh...and side note...the prevacid seems to really be helping!! We're crossing our fingers.

A vent/funny story

(So, this will be boring to some and amusing to others. But mostly Drew and I just wanted to document it. )

Luke has been really fussy the past couple days. Not just whiny, wiggly fussy, but SCREAMING in the middle of eating or "happy time" fussy. We've tried lots of different things thinking it was gas or constipation (he's had these problems in the past, so why not just think that, right?) but finally this morning I decided to call our new Doc to try and get in and see what's going on. I didn't think about acid reflux until my sister-in-law mentioned that it could possibly be that. After I explained all his symptoms, the doc confirmed that was probably what he had. She decided to prescribe prevacid and get him started on that, and we'll check up on how he's doing at his 4 month apt. in two weeks. So....heres where it gets good.....

Our new insurance with Drew's job is a teacher insurance, and we were told it was only accepted at Walgreens, so I took it to Walgreens. We haven't received our insurance card yet, so I was hoping they could look up the info by Drew's social security number, like our doctor did. But the pharmacist informed me that she couldn't do that, and the medication would be $97.00 without insurance. So...off I went to think of the next plan.

When Drew got home from work he realized we might still have insurance with his Cedar Breaks job because you're supposed to be covered for 30 days after your last day, which was August 5. So, we went to Smith's to see if they would fill it because I had just filled a prescription there a couple days ago with our old insurance. (Confused yet???) They said they could, and to come back in 30 minutes. So...off we went to Sonic to get a drink while we waited.

We go back to Smith's, and they inform us that they couldn't fill it because our insurance got canceled on Aug. 31st. We have no idea why that happened because that was not 30 days, but whatev. So we left to shop at Wal Mart.

As we were at Wal Mart, Drew's mom said she would pay for the prescription if they would reimburse her once we showed them our insurance info. We called them first to see if they covered our new insurance, and second to see if they would allow that and they said, "Yes, you have two weeks to get us your insurance info, and you'll be reimbursed in full. The total is $214.00." I told them no thanks, we'll take it to Walgreens since it was only $97.00 there. They said they would match Walgreens price and to come to Smith's. So we did.

When we got there, they informed us that there was a problem with the prescription and the doctor had written it wrong. Supposedly soluable prevacid can't be broken in half as the doctor wrote. So they informed us they'd have to call our doctor in the morning (since it was now after 6:00) and get it straightened out. Discouraged from our 4 trips driving back and forth to Smith's, our house and Wal Mart, we just got Luke some tylenol and headed home.

As soon as we walked in our door, I get a call from Smith's saying they got a hold of the doctor, and it was correct, I would just have to be extremely careful when breaking the pill in half. Oh...okay. Ha! So, I went back to Smith's to get the prescription.

All I have to say is this medicine better be worth the trouble! My poor little man is just not himself. We are so thankful for parents that continue to help us when we have issues like this. They are awesome. Now I'll have to go back to Smith's on Tuesday to get our reimbursement and show them our insurance info...until then, I DO NOT want to go there for any reason. :)

My next post will be much more exciting...we took pics of Drew's classroom so I'll update everyone on that!
