9 months

Lennon,

This month has been...interesting! You have been quite the dramatic little thing. ;) A lot of it was due to teething and sickness, but because you were spoiled during those times, you now think I hold you 24/7. I love the snuggles, but we will probably have to start working on that soon.

You got your two bottom teeth and they were a doozy! It took about two weeks for them to come in and you were so miserable. But they are the cutest! Your scrunch you smile is even cuter now, if that is possible! You're still a great eater (up until your stomach bug this week...so sad.) You love love mama's milk and it's an adjustment for me since your siblings were done at 6-7 months. We will probably have a hard time weaning but that's ok! You've started eating little dissolvable snacks and can't get enough while you watch your favorite Baby Einstein. You've started not loving baths. Not sure why but probably because a lot of times there are two crazy kids splashing you. Most the time you love your brother and sister so much! Unless mom is in the room, you would rather play with me.

It's your first Christmas this month and we can't wait to watch you explore and learn. Seeing the world through your eyes gives me perspective. We love your dark brown hair, that's getting longer every day. We love your brown eyes, your little giggle (that is SO hard to get) and your cute teeth/smile. We don't necessarily love your new way of communication which is screaming/squealing!

You're growing so fast and I'm trying to cherish each day with you, even though a lot are spent holding you to keep you happy.

Love you so much baby girl!

Lennon Month 6

Dear baby girl-

You are so big! This month you've grown almost 2 inches and you're rolling and scooting everywhere. Not quite sitting up but you're close! You have started eating a little bit of food and can't get enough! You've tried peas, apples, bananas and sweet potatoes. You still love nursing and I don't see you quitting anytime soon. Which I am totally fine with!

You are much more aware of your surroundings this month and you know what bed time is, who you prefer to hold you, and just how to manipulate us into giving into your "demands". ;) You're still an angel most of the time, but the few times you aren't, you remind me of your sister! Stubborn.

This month you learned to sleep through the night from 8-5 and then til 8 again. You still fuss or cry to sleep for naps and bed but only for a few minutes. I hate it but I know that your sleep is important and you're learning that too.

You love your brother and sister so much and smile from ear to ear when you hear them or when they play with you. You're a huge mamas girl and have started crying when I leave the room or when others take you from me. It melts my heart.

You've had a few babysitters as I've had to go to work and dad and I go on dates :) You're usually either sleeping through it or its grandma/grandpa or aunt Kenzie. But you're always such a good girl for whoever it is! You have a fake smile where you scrunch up your eyes and sometimes stick out your tongue too. It's adorable.

You still light up my world and I can't imagine our family without our Lenny! (A few people have started calling you that and we can't decide if it's cute or we hate it. Half the time I say Lenny Kravitz. Haha.) We love you so much sweet baby. Until next month, slow down a bit!

Love, mom

7 months

Dear Lennon,

This month was FULL of firsts and learning so many new things. You're scooting all over the place, *almost* mastered sitting up, you say "dada" all the time, and "mama" when you're sad. (Somehow I think "dada" is just easy to say and you aren't sure what it means yet. But that's just me ;) You also say "nana". You learned how to wave and whenever you hear bye-bye you wave your whole arm up and down. You also learned how to give high fives! You're just growing up before our eyes.

We are still trying lots of new foods daily and you're loving everything we try. Be it green veggies or sweet fruits you love them equally. You also are still breast feeding and I don't see stopping any time soon. I hope to make it to a year!

You're getting to be a pretty good sleeper. We are pretty busy on the weekends which usually throws you off each week, but we usually get you back on by Tuesday! You go to bed between 7-7:30, and wake up at 5 a.m. to eat. Then you're up for the day at 7-7:30, and have two or three naps throughout the day depending on how long each one is. You've been my hardest baby to keep on a schedule because your older brother and sister have busy schedules themselves! But luckily you're the easiest, sweetest thing and usually adapt to whatever we are doing.

This week you have been pretty fussy, and I THINK it's because of teething, but maybe just an ear infection. If it is teeth, I sure hope they poke through soon so you can stop being miserable! When you're the happy smiley baby you are, it's so hard to see you be fussy and sad!

You and I took a road trip to Heber just us and you were such a good girl. You don't LOVE your carseat, but with toys and the iPad you can usually stay entertained.

It's hard to say whether you're a mama or dada's girl. You're happiest when I hold you, but you give the biggest smiles to your dad. We will see as you get older! You LOVE Luke and Ali so much and are so happy you can finally follow them around. They can usually cheer you right up with their sweet "baby voice" and kisses.

You make us so happy, as I've said a million times! I cherish my snuggles with you, and look forward to seeing your curious eyes learn new things every day! Please stay my sweet little baby a little longer!

Love,

Mom.

Lennon Month 5

Dear Lennon-

You did so many new things this month! You've grown up a lot and a lot of people are commenting how you almost look like a different baby. You roll all over the place and scoot around too. You actually scooted right off the bed and I felt horrible about it! You've finally started giggling and still smile for anyone and everyone. You are pretty content to play in your saucer and watch your brother and sister run circles around you! We took a long road trip to Mexico and you had a pretty rough time :( We ended up getting you a new car seat between driving home from Mexico and driving to Uncle Gavin's wedding, which seemed to help.

You were an angel baby at the beach for a week! You just go with the flow and don't mind your schedule getting messed up. I mind more than you ;) You loved the sound of the ocean and sitting on the patio with me in the evenings.

You also got a new baby cousin this week! Liam Bryce Jones was born and you two will be best buds I hope!

We haven't tried any solids yet but you try and dive for my food all the time so I think we will start soon. Though your thighs suggest to me that you're doing just fine with nutrients ;)

You still love your baths, your crib, and your family's attention. You are growing out of your binky, your swing, and no more swaddle. I'm in denial about a lot of it! You're just growing way too fast!

Everyone who is fortunate enough to snuggle you or "talk" with you falls in love. You're just a beautiful baby with a beautiful soul that already shines so bright!

You just make us so happy and I feel incredibly blessed that I get to be your mama!

Love you sweetie pie!

Love, Mom

Lennon Month 4

Dear Lennon,

My cute angel baby, you are 4 months old already. You're such a good girl still and just bring me so much joy. We have had a crazy, busy, stressful month and you keep me sane and grounded. We went to Heber for a week, we moved to St George, and I started a new job. (During training I am working full time and you get to be with dad.) I miss you so much when I'm gone but soon we will be together again :)

You rolled over for the first time this month, you talk and jabber ALL the time. You still haven't laughed but it's coming I know. ;) You absolutely adore your siblings still and could sit and watch their shenanigans happily. You gained a lot of weight since we saw your doctor at 2 months! You went from the 20th percentile to 80th! Good girl. You love to eat and I love feeding you :)

You sometimes wake up in the night but usually not. I love when you sleep 7-5! Your schedule has just been insane so now that we are settled in our new house we are working on it.

Your smile makes me melt, and I'm so thankful I'm your mama! It's hard watching you get bigger but it's rewarding watching you develop and learn new things.

We love you more than words. Don't ever change!

Love, Mom

Mother of Three

6:32 a.m. I wake up to the sound of footsteps coming into my room. I feel like I have slept 2 hours, total. (Probably because I have between feeding my infant and my allergies.)  I open my eyes and see my 5 year old, standing so close I can smell his hot, stale breath. I let him lay by me as we talk about his dreams of Batman and My Little Pony saving him and his little sisters from all the scary zombies.

A few minutes later we hear the baby cooing good morning to herself. He goes downstairs to watch cartoons as I slowly get dressed and make my way down the hall. I peak in her crib and she smiles so big I forgive her for the sleepless night. We snuggle and stare at each other as I nurse her.

The silence is broken by a squeaky voice singing the "ABC's" from the next room. I change the baby's diaper, and lay her on the floor with toys as I make my way to her 2 year old sister's room. I take a deep breath outside her door and remind myself to be patient. I'm usually walking on egg shells to keep this girl happy all day, and it starts right now.

I open the door and say, "Hi princess! How did you sleep?" as cheery as I can possibly sound as to not upset her-highness. She proceeds to show me that her diaper is off and there's pee all over her bed. We get her cleaned up and dressed. Then un-dressed and dressed again when she decides she doesn't want this pink shirt, she wants her Minnie Mouse shirt, and her Elsa dress-up dress on. Don't forget the crown.

I gather the baby up and hold the princess' hand (if I let go the screams commence) as we make our way downstairs for breakfast. Luckily, Batman is sitting quietly watching tv.

The baby in her swing and the kids on the couch, I grab the oatmeal out of the cupboard and hear behind me "Pop tart?!" "Pop tart?!" "Yeah mom, we want pop tarts!". I think about it for 2 seconds and decide I would rather avoid the fight and give them what they asked for, reminding myself that I would really like to be better at not feeding them processed junk. I will cut up an apple to go with it.

One likes his pop tart cold, the other likes hers warm. But keep reminding her it's hot when it first is on her plate, even though she'll touch it anyway. He likes "red milk" (soy milk), she'll only drink almond milk. Once breakfast is served, the baby would like some attention. I try to fix myself something to eat as I hold her. I eat bites in between cleaning up milk spills, answering Batman's 73 questions and tickling the baby. I say, "Eat please" about 15 times and finally give up after I hear, "Mom, done!" for the 100th time.

After cleaning up half-eaten pop tarts and apple peels, we change Princess' costume into Robin per Batman's request. But the red cape won't do! It has to be yellow. I search for a yellow shirt or blanket and tie it on like a cape.   "Perfect, mom! Good job!"

As I'm finishing my cold oatmeal, Robin keeps wandering over asking for a "bite?" She eats more of my oatmeal than she ate of her pop tart. After we finish it together, I take them upstairs to play. I shut the gate to their play room and rush downstairs to my tired, crying baby. I sing to her and rock her a little as she drifts off, then lay her in her swing.

I head back upstairs to strip pee-smelled sheets and start the laundry. That's when the fighting starts..."Mine!" "No, mine!". I show them that there are two bunnies so they can each hold one, and remind them that we share and take turns.

I now have a few minutes to myself. Do I have time to shower? I really want to catch up on my Ellen's I have saved. I will shower during nap time. 10 minutes into the show, I hear, "Mom, I'm going poop, ok?!" I yell up, (quietly so the baby doesn't wake) "ok, try and wipe yourself!"  But I still go up anyway to make sure he does. As I help him, I remember it's almost time to potty train the princess. We wash our hands and go back to playing and Ellen.

10 minutes later, Robin yells, "Snack! Drink!" I look at the clock and realize it's only been an hour since breakfast, how can she already be hungry? I bring up a cheese stick and some water, noting all the messes they've made, and turn on a Daniel Tiger episode about using the potty. I change the laundry on my way back downstairs. The baby is awake, ready to eat. I finish Ellen as she nurses.

"Mom! It realllly stinks up here! She pooped!" After changing the baby, I go upstairs to change Robin, who is now Cinderella. Batman is now the prince and asks me to help him tie on his cape. They want to watch Cinderella so they can act it out. I agree they can watch one more show. I play with the baby and fold laundry while watching them dance around to "So This is Love." My eyes are so tired, but I love watching them play and be creative. I smile at how cute they are.

As I change the laundry load again, they are getting bored of Cinderella. I ask if they would like to play outside in the little pool. "Yay! Outside!" After getting sun screen, swim suits and hats on, they head outside. I rock the baby to sleep while watching them from the screen door. I lay her down and head outside to watch them and play with bubbles. "Ew! Bugs!" he yells from his playhouse and rushes out. "Ew! Bugs!", she repeats because she has to copy everything he does. I blow bubbles for them while they fight over who gets to pop them. It doesn't matter if I show them that taking turns is more efficient, they still insist on chasing/pushing/screaming to get to the bubbles first. I put the bubbles away and they are ready to come inside now. I beg them for a few more minutes since they are wet and it took so long to get them ready. But they're hungry again. I guess I can start lunch a little early.

They dry off with towels on the family room floor as I make some sandwiches. After I've spread the peanut butter, but before I've spread honey, the baby wakes up a little early from her nap. I give her a binky and pat her back to sleep. Back downstairs, he's eaten half his peanut butter, no honey sandwich. After scolding him and a little time out, I let him finish it as is, and I finish making hers. She says, "Thank you, mom!". If I don't respond right away she says it again and again, getting angrier and angrier, until I say, "You're welcome!". I get them some yogurt, reminding myself that they've already had a cheese stick today and hopefully this isn't too much dairy since they're sensitive.

Another 73 questions are asked by him at lunch time and she keeps asking for "dip?!". Nothing she's eating goes with dip so I give her a little hummus with carrots. He wants hummus too. They use their carrots as dipping sticks and lick the hummus off. I remind them to please eat the carrots too, as I make myself lunch.

"Mom, I love you a thousand, million, trillion. To heaven, back to earth, up to the moon, down to the park and back to our house!" "Wow, honey! That's a lot. I love you a million bazillion and around the world a thousand times."

After we eat I tell them to go get some coloring books and I put on some music. They sing along and do more dancing then coloring. The baby wakes up and starts her cycle over.

Eat. Change. Play. Sleep.

It's finally nap time/quiet time. Aurora goes to bed with little resistance, but Captain America doesn't want quiet time! I tell him if he plays quietly in his room for 45 mins, he can play on the iPad after that. He agrees, but most of the 45 minutes are spent asking, "How much longer?".

He takes the iPad to his room to play Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and I get the baby to sleep. I snuggle with her on my chest, smelling her milk breath and stroking her silky skin for a few minutes, thinking my other two were JUST this small.  I would like to close my eyes and drift off too, but I need to take a shower and do some dishes.

I check on Captain America after I'm finished and tell him he has 5 more minutes to play on the iPad. I do some online shopping for my little brother's wedding, and think about going to the gym later so I can feel better in my bridesmaid dress.

We practice sight words and reading for a while, and then dad comes home from work. Once daddy's home I get to rest for a bit. But usually instead of sleeping I make lists in my head of all I need to do, things I can do better, etc. I wake up to Spider-Man and Queen Elsa fighting about something in the play room, and get angry at myself after realizing it's been an hour and I only slept 10 mins.

The baby wakes up too. Eat. Change. Play.

We load everyone up in the car to run errands and go grab some things from Target. We get the big cart so there's room for all three kids, but somehow only one ends up sitting in it. We manage to make it out after only a few tantrums and cave-ins to buy ONE treat. The baby is exhausted but won't fall asleep in her car seat so I rock her as the kids watch a movie in the parked car.

We get home and start dinner. The kids run around wildly, despite our scolds and asking them to slow down. Eventually one gets hurt and we clean up their cut/scratch and the bandaid usually makes it all better. While playing we get a glimpse of their sweet sides as they take a break from playing to give us hugs and say, "I love you."

The baby has had a fussy evening (I wonder if it's because of something I ate, and start making lists in my head of foods to avoid) and our arms are sore from rocking her.
We take turns holding her and helping the others through dinner. "I don't like red sauce. It's sgusting!". "I don't like red sauce. It's sgusting!" (From the squeakier voice.")

After helping them take bites and finish their "sgusting" pasta and veggies, it's bath time. Divide and concor, he takes the older ones, I take the baby. The baby smiles and splashes and squeals with delight, and I smile and laugh back. In a few short years, she'll probably cry when I pour water on her head, just like her sister.

We meet up for books and prayers. They request "The Foot Book" again, because they love the way dad acts it out with their feet. We do it again, because we love hearing their laughs. (We have to read it twice so both their feet get a turn.)
Their prayers are usually pretty short.  "Thank you for my Spider-Man costume. Please bless we can all use the potty."

After kisses and hugs it's time for bed, and we tuck them in. I tell them I love them and to sleep good. Thinking about all the times I've scolded them that day, and hoping they still love me too.

I nurse the baby and lay her down, but it sometimes takes a few times before she stays sleeping. When she's finally asleep, we are exhausted from the day. Sometimes going to sleep soon after. As I lay in bed trying to fall asleep, I reflect on our day.

I ran up and down the stairs so many times. He had three time outs, she had two. I raised my voice too many times. And I ask myself,

Are they healthy enough? Am i disciplining them correctly? Do they drink too much juice? Should I have taken him to get stitches for that cut? Is she happy, even though she's stubborn and throws countless tantrums? Do they watch too much TV? Is she sleeping/eating enough and reaching proper milestones?

Every day I ask myself if I'm doing it right. And sometimes I fix something or change the way I do things.

But usually our day goes like this anyway, and we are still all happy and love each other when we go to bed.

Being a mother is an amazing job. I'm a chef, a painter, a doctor, a magician, a taxi-cab driver, a singer/dancer, a seamstress, and a teacher. I'm so much more than what I would be without them. It's worth every hard second.

I fall asleep eventually and celebrate when the baby only wakes up once in the night to eat. And then 6:32 a.m. comes, and we start over.

Luke #5!

Dear Luke,

You are 5 years old! Each year it just sounds so crazy but 5 is a whole new crazy! You have done all kinds of new stuff this past year and will go to kindergarten in a few months! This year you tried all kind of new things including swimming lessons, soccer, and t-ball. You loved soccer the most (even though you wouldn't really touch the ball. You loved chasing it, but when it would come toward you, you would freeze. Or pretend to be "going after it." Pretty hysterical.) You HATED swimming lessons and still are super nervous around water now because of lessons. We will have to work on that this summer. You are REALLY good at t-ball! You started the season as a natural and all the mom's and kid's thought it was your second year. You think it's kinda boring though, so maybe when you get into coach pitch or actual baseball, you'll like it better. You are also doing a play at Hollywood Kids right now. Frozen! You play all the of male characters with all the boys, but you get to specifically be Olaf for some of it! We are excited to watch you perform in a few weeks.

You have learned so much this year. You know how to read small words and easily sound out bigger ones. You can count to 100+, you know all of your 3D shapes, and the alphabet in sign language. You had two great years of pre-school and loved every minute of it. (Most days.) We can't wait to see you do well in kindergarten as well!

We are moving to St. George this month and though I know it's going to be a BIG change for all of us, I'm most concerned about you. The only home you've ever known is Vegas, so I'm hoping you'll adjust quickly and won't be too sad.

You still love watching t.v. or playing video games and on the iPad. We have had to start a chore chart and "media" chart to limit your time. ;) You love Legos, Big Hero 6/Baymax, batman, power rangers, ninja turtles, and My Little Pony. (Haha). You still are obsessed with all things Disney and Disneyland, and you were lucky enough to go for your birthday a few weeks ago! We had as fun a time as ever and can't ever get enough of that place. Now we have to wait a few more years to go again, but in the mean time you'll watch YouTube videos of the rides. ;) (Another thing we have to limit.) You got a new bike for your birthday too! It was about time, because all you've ever had is your Strider balance bike. Once things slow down after dad's done with work and we move, we'll get practicing.

Favorite foods still consist of mac n' cheese and quesadillas, but you're starting to get REAL picky about specifics. (What kind of cheese/noodles, etc.) And now your favorite food is "fake chicken". As you are getting older we are starting to talk to you more about vegetarianism. Right now you're all about it, and you even told your grandma that you were going to save all the chickens, and bring them to our house, so nobody can eat them ;) But we'll see as you get older what you decide to do!

You got a new little sister this year too! You were a little sad that it was a girl at first, and still ask me all the time if you can have a brother now. But you absolutely adore Lennon, and you're a great big brother. Lennon adores you too and always smiles when she sees you or even hears your (loud) voice. You and Ali are best buds most of the time, but you definitely know how to push each other's buttons! Ali copies your every word and move, and though you might hate it, I think it's pretty adorable.

We love you so much, Luke James! You are sometimes a challenge now that you are getting older and have your own agenda and opinions. You talk back sometimes, and you're starting to whine. But at the end of the day you have the kindest heart, and are always concerned for others' feelings. You even got the "Mr. Goodbar" award at preschool for always being so nice and friendly to everyone, no matter what. It makes me so proud to hear that even outside the house, you show kindness to everyone. Now that you've been in primary for a few years, you are starting to learn more and more about the gospel and your testimony is starting to blossom. One of the coolest things to watch as your mother is how you react to the world around you based on what you've learned at home and at church. I can only hope that you continue to be the sweet, handsome, smart boy you already are. I love you little dude! Up to the moon, back to our house, around the whole earth, and then to heaven. (One of the things we do right now is compare our love to distances...it gets pretty cute. ;)

Love,
Mom

Lennon 3 months

Dear Lennon,

Here we are almost a week past your three month mark, and I'm just getting around to this! Life as a mom of three has totally thrown our groove off, but I wouldn't have it any other way. You make me so amazingly happy. You are seriously like a ray of sunshine every single day. So content and cheerful, and always happy to see me. (Unlike your siblings, now that they're growing up that's not always the case! ;)) We all adore you and are so thankful for you every day. This month you have really become alert and noticing your surroundings. You "talk" all day long, trying to compete with your always-talking siblings. You are holding your head up like a champ and LOVE tummy time. You love sleeping on your tummy too and have great naps that way. I always make sure I'm watching close by, but when you're more comfortable, I am too. You have gone 8-10 hours at night most nights, but we're still trying to get it set in stone. When you do wake up, it's just to eat a little and you're right back to bed, so I don't mind it too much. I've always loved breast feeding with each baby, and that love continues with you too. You're a champ eater and I'm sure when we introduce solids in a few months you'll love them too. You finally take a binky but you don't have to have it so it's kinda a win win! It soothes you but you can self soothe too ;) You squeal and shriek with happiness every time we put you in a bath. You're a water baby for sure. I can't wait to start swimming with you this summer!

This month you had a lot of excitement. We went to Disneyland, and you were so good. You had allergies and clogged tear ducts so you weren't feeling great but you were still so content and happy just to be looking around. We are making a big move to Utah in a few weeks for daddy's new job, and we are really excited to start a new adventure there. I know you'll adjust and not know anything is different, but as your siblings are sure going to notice, I hope we can keep the chaos to a minimum. I will have to start working once we move, so I'm really hoping to find something that accommodates me being a mother first. It will be so hard to leave you, and Luke and Ali.

Thank you for being you, Lennon girl! You really are the sweetest baby and I can't get enough of you.

Love,

Mom
