Dear Ali,
2 months already! I am soaking up every.single.minute with you. I hold you so much more than I should. (Except not really because you cant spoil a baby I've been told...;)) This month has been so fun! You are developing each day and I love the baby you are becoming! Usually happy and LOVE to talk. You will talk to anyone who puts their face in your bubble, haha, but you goo and coo the most to me! I love it. Daddy laughs at me because I sit and make funny noises and sounds with my lips but you just love talking too much to stop. You are starting to get on a schedule and you even slept 7.5 hours last night! You usually always go at least 5 so we are slowly getting more sleep! Yay you! Keep it up baby girl! We went to the doctor today for your check up and here are your stats:
-Weight: 13.8 lbs, >95th percentile. (Yep, greater than! lol.)
-Height 23 inches. 90th percentile.
You are a chunky monkey! You have a triple chin and I love it. I didn't think you would be this chunky because you nurse REALLY quickly and I wasn't sure you were even getting milk, but I guess you get plenty! You only take about 7-10 minutes to eat and then you are good for 3 hours! You do spit up every time you eat and get hiccups often. Not sure if we have the beginnings of reflux or if it's just normal spitting up. Doc says to keep an eye on it so we will! You are usually happy and only grumpy if you are hungry or have gas. Not sure why my children have issues with figuring out gas! It's really sad but usually if I bicycle your legs or massage your tummy a bit we can get em out ;). You are NOT a pooper, unfortunately. Luke went a couple times a day when he was your age, but you go 3 or 4 days in between poops. In fact, I think it's becoming a problem because you get more fussy as the days go by. So we may have to start putting some cereal in pumped bottles of my milk to see if it helps? We are slowly experimenting with you, but it's not as stressful this time around as it was with Luke because I know it's fine when you are fussy. That's sometimes just how babies get.
You are such a pretty girl. Your eyes captivate me. :) I love to just stare at those pretty blues. Your hair is starting to get really patchy and we'll probably try to even it out pretty soon. You LOVE to sleep on your tummy so if you are napping in the same room that I'm in, I usually let you. Maybe that will help with the bald patches. But if not, it's okay. You are pretty anyway! We are debating whether or not to pierce your ears. I don't think we will, but sometimes I think it would be really cute.
Your favorite time of day is right when you wake up in the morning and during your bath. I love that I have water babies! You are following in your brother's footsteps with the water-loving. I even let you take a 20 minute bath the other day. Is that bad? Your water stayed warm and I just let you soak and relax while I sat and talked to you. It was heaven. You are so fun to snuggle, and I know you like it too. You settle right down if we hold you close, and you even let me chew on your cheeks sometimes. Thank you. :)
You have brought so much joy into our home. I just love taking care of you and think it's the best job in the world! You are loved by so many and we can't wait to see what you become. Though, I hope it goes slowly. Can't believe it has already been two months since you came into the world! We love you sweetie pie.
Love,
Mom.

3 Years
Dear Luke,
You are officially out of the terrible twos and into the more terrible threes! ;) You have turned into a full on child these last two months and aren't at all baby. (But you'll always be my baby!) This last year flew by so quickly when I look back, and we had so many ups and downs! In the last year you have learned so much and continue to be one of the smartest little people I know!
-You know how to differentiate between colors and know most of them.
-You can count to 20
-You are completely potty trained (sometimes a pull up at night and the occasional accident.)
-You are always using new words and sentences, usually we have no idea where you learn them.
-You aren't the best eater. Your favorites (and usually all you will eat) Mac n' cheese, pizza, quesadillas, corn dogs/hot dogs (veggie), green beans, poptarts, waffles, cereal, fruit, and OF COURSE milk. (soy or almond)
-You could run around for hours on end if we would let you. Just run. SO much energy.
-Your favorite toys are Buzz and Woody, Spider man, costumes, cars, and your Jake and the Neverland Pirates boat/stuff.
-You REALLY love your grandparents (what kid doesn't) and miss them terribly when we don't see them often.
-You talk non-stop. Like, literally. I need to listen more often and not just tune you out because you say the darndest things. ;)
-You still love reading books and singing songs. You are usually the only kid left in nursery sitting on the rug singing instead of charging the door towards your parents like all the other kids. I'm excited for you to go to preschool twice a week this fall. (Also a little sad...that will be an emotional day.)
-Your dad is your BEST friend. You love playing with him so much. I hope one day you have a brother to wrestle with because your dad gets warn out!
-You can still swim by yourself as long as you have your floaties..we may try and take them off this summer and see how you do.
While I was on bed rest, you (unfortunately) had to watch lots of TV and movies. Because of that, you know LOTS of Disney characters and cartoon characters. You LOVE all super heroes and especially love to dress up like them. You are almost always in a costume and don't understand why you can't live in them. I guess you can, why not? ;) We have been to Disneyland twice in the last year (lucky you) and it's all you ever talk about. There is an app on dad's iPad where you can scroll around Disneyland and click on each ride and "ride it" or watch movies/characters talking. You are pretty pro at finding different rides or areas of Disneyland (on the app at least!) I wish I had been better at documenting things this past year because you are so funny.
You are also hard! You have a mind of your own and are very independent so sometimes it's a challenge to get you to do what needs to be done. (I'm sure that's a typical toddler-like quality though.) Your little sister is your pride and joy! It's the cutest thing to listen to you talk to her or, my favorite, sing to her. Sure you get jealous of her and want mom to hold you lots more. But, for the most part she hasn't even made a dent in your daily schedule. You still take a good solid 2.5 or 3 hour nap. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be cutting that out or not but you usually fall asleep anyway if I don't lay you down. So we'll keep doing it.
You are still big for your age at 35 lbs and 38.5 inches. Lots of people think you are a 4 year old. And you seem SO heavy now next to your chunky sister. You also surprise people with your vocabulary. (Again, you talk a lot.) You are very social and don't take long to warm up to people. One of my favorite things you do though is you talk to people through me. When someone asks you a question, you turn to me and say, "What did her say mom?". You get messed up on pronouns, using "her and him" instead of "he or she". And sometimes you use "my" instead of "I". It's really cute so I don't correct it as much as I should. ;) "What did her say, mom?" "Where is him going?" "Her is crying!" "My do it." See? Doesn't it sound cute? You ALWAYS ALWAYS have to say thank you. Even if someone does something so little for you. You go out of your way to tell them thank you. I'm so happy you do it, and I'm not sure where you learned it. But I'm glad!
You still have beautiful long eyelashes that people comment on. A very handsome little dude!
I know there is so much more I could write, and I need to be better at it. Because I don't want to forget the funny or sweet little stories. Hopefully I can find some from other social media sources to document in our blog book.
I love you so much little man. You have been such a challenge these past few months on bed rest and then having a newborn all while you were turning three. (Side note..I totally think it's supposed to be "terrible threes" for boys. Not "twos" But whatever.) We have our moments where I feel like I am a a horrible mom and you won't ever listen or forgive me. But then we just snuggle for a bit and it's all okay. Thank you for loving me despite my short comings and motherly fails. ;) You keep me going every day and I can't wait for our relationship to grow even more than it has. You are my favorite boy. And you know it. ;) Please slow down. I know a year from now I will be saying this year flew by. But I hope to savor every single moment and hold it dear because time sure does fly when we are having fun.
Love you so much,
Mom

Heber Kent Jones
This is going to be long because I want to remember so much of this past week. So if you're reading, know that this is mostly for personal records so there will be lots of details.
My grandpa lived right up the road from me my whole life. I was so thankful for that. I didn't realize how blessed I was until later in life when I realized most of my friends didn't even have one grandparent near by, let alone most in the same town. My grandpa was a simple and mostly quiet man. Though when he did have something to say, it was something profound and or funny. :) He had his own language, and I'll never forget his funny words like, "critter, fark (instead of fork), or somethink." His love for nature was something I always loved, because I'm the same way. He practically lived in the forest, and was happiest there. I'll always remember our many liver pool card games, our picnics at Whiskey Springs, and drives through the mountains. Most of all I'll remember his laugh and his big hugs. I wish I could have one now...but someday I will be able to have one again.
My grandpa had been sick for about a year after being diagnosed with a disease which is basically "asbestos in his lungs". He worked at Geneva Steal while going to BYU as a young man, and that is where he attracted the disease. It doesn't manifest for many many years. He has been worse the past couple of months and a few weeks ago (right after Ali was born when I was in Heber) he was put on Hospice. On oxygen and not able to go anywhere except basically his bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and back deck. He was still happy as ever and NEVER complained. I saw him 3 times last week. And each time he seemed okay. We ate dinner together, talked, and played with Luke. On Mother's Day morning, he woke up and went to the computer. He wrote my grandma the SWEETEST letter you could ever imagine. She shared it with close friends and family members as we visited with him through out the day. After he wrote the letter, he went and had breakfast on the deck, and after that, slowly started losing his energy. He went to lay down in his bedroom, and after not being able to get up anymore, hospice brought him a hospital bed. He was able to skype with my little brother, Gav, who was one of his best buddies. Gavin had a hard time seeing my grandpa not able to talk much, and it was a tearful goodbye. Grandpa asked my dad for a "blessing of release" and my brother's and Drew participated. At the time of the blessing I was still at my grandpa and grandma Mair's house with the Davis side of the family. But when the boys came back from giving the blessing, they were in tears, and Drew told me I better get up there. So I hurried and fed Ali, then went up to see my grandpa (which would also be telling him goodbye.) I went back into his bedroom and saw him laying there resting, and I could see his chest working so hard to breathe. He opened his eyes and I told him it was me. He said, "You are so beautiful. More beautiful every day." Then he tried to just have normal conversation, asking me where Luke was and when we had to go back to Las Vegas. He kept closing his eyes to rest, then would open them to smile at me. I kept telling him it was okay to rest, and eventually he said, "I might fall asleep on you." So I told him I would let him sleep and that I loved him. "I love you too" were the last words I heard from him. So SO thankful that I got to see him and share those precious words and moments. He passed away 5 short hours later with my dad and grandma holding his hand.
My grandpa had pretty much planned his funeral and talked with my dad about what he wanted said and heard. He had asked that I sing, "Be Still, My Soul", because "my voice was his favorite." When my grandma asked me, I told her I would try my hardest. All week I practiced to try and get through the song without crying. I couldn't really do it, even just practicing. The day of the funeral I said a prayer that my grandpa would be with me and that I could get through it enough to get the message across and make him proud. I tried to think of Ellen Degenerous and it was working...for the first two versus. But as I prepared to sing the last verse, I thought about the words and my grandpa and I half cried half sang the last verse. I got the words out though, and that was the most important thing. My grandma thanked me and I am glad I could do it for her, and for my grandpa. The grandson's also sang, "If You Could Hie to Kolob" and it was beautiful. My aunt and my dad spoke, and gave excellent talks, quoting excerpts from my grandpa's detailed journal. I have learned through reading his journal how alike we are. I wish we could have had more deep conversations, and had I known a lot of things his journal is telling me, I would have made sure of it. His love for the mountains, valleys and wildlife (especially of Heber), the gospel, and his family are amazing. Almost intertwined and all connected. That's why I know I'm his granddaughter, because those three things are also connected in my eyes. He talked about his family in almost every journal entry, and I know how much he loved us. My grandpa told my dad what he wanted said at his funeral and even wrote down most of it. Expressing his love for his family and his testimony. I was so thankful he did that so we could hear it one last time.
Here is a video I will cherish forever of my grandpa talking to my family (Chad Jones family reunion) in Capitol Reef last August. We have gone to Capitol Reef with the entire Jones side multiple times throughout my life and now we are making it a tradition in our family.
*The video won't work. :( He talks about how important we are for him, and though we don't know it he prays for us daily. And to always stay close and cherish family time.

This true cowboy needed horses to take him to the cemetary.

A beautiful day to celebrate a beautiful man who LOVED his beautiful valley :)
All of Grandpa's grandchildren besides two serving missions.
A friend of my aunt's wrote this on facebook:
It truly is interesting how oblivious we are or can be in our youth and as we mature realize the true blessings of people who have crossed our paths and impacted our lives. How years later we can look back and see how people provided us with amazing examples of how to love, how to parent, what kind of friend to be, how to walk in the steps of our creator, be good citizens, loving neighbors, the list is really endless. I think this is truly a great time in my life because I am able to see so many amazing blessings that intersected my life and so many amazing teachers. This is heavy on my heart today because one such man has gone onto heaven who provided many of these examples. When I was young I knew there was something distinctly different about him and how lucky my friend was to be part of such a loving family, but it wasn't until many years later when this process began that I realized he was not only a man who truly walked in the footsteps of Christ and had a fierce love for his family, making my friend very blessed, but that everyone who knew him and and his family, were also extremely blessed. And I am praying that God will be with this entire family replacing their grief with warm memories and an outpouring of love from everyone who was also touched by him!
So many people loved my grandpa, and he truly was an amazing man. One of my heroes, whom I cannot wait to see again. So glad I have the knowledge that I will be reunited with him one day. Love you gramps! Thanks for teaching me so much more than you'll ever know. I hope to follow in your example and touch as many lives as you did.
Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
With patience bear the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future, as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below.
Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,
And all is darkened in the vale of tears,
Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away.
Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
